A slice of London’s Hippodrome Casino is heading online as Playtech and the historic venue join forces to stream live dealer games directly from inside the casino. The new “Live from London” series will give online casino players access to roulette, blackjack, baccarat and other table games broadcast from the Hippodrome, with the content distributed through Playtech’s operator partners.
It is a partnership that combines the familiarity of a major land-based casino with the reach of online live gaming. Instead of recreating the atmosphere of a physical venue inside a conventional studio, Playtech is bringing the venue itself into the live casino experience.
That model could become increasingly important as suppliers look for ways to make live casino content more distinctive.
The initial Live from London lineup includes dual roulette, Studio Core roulette, blackjack and baccarat, with additional table games also planned. Its location and identity become part of the proposition. Players are not simply watching a dealer operate from an anonymous studio. They are accessing games streamed from one of London’s best-known casino and entertainment venues.
For Playtech, the partnership also expands its “Live from” strategy, which already includes collaborations with major Las Vegas properties such as MGM Grand and Bellagio Resort & Casino.
Live dealer gaming has traditionally focused on the interaction between players, dealers and physical tables. Partnerships with recognizable venues add another layer, giving individual products a stronger sense of place and potentially making them easier to differentiate.
Playtech Chief Interactive Officer Marat Koss noted the Hippodrome collaboration would introduce players around the world to the venue’s heritage and atmosphere while combining that experience with the company’s technology.
The Hippodrome gets something from the arrangement too. Its Director of Online Gaming, George Constantinou, said Playtech’s technology allows the casino to extend its experience beyond the physical venue and reach audiences internationally.
That creates a two-way relationship rather than simply another content deal. The land-based casino contributes its brand, setting and gaming environment, while the technology provider turns those assets into an online product that operators can distribute.
Playtech already has a substantial live casino operation, including its Riga studios and branded products such as Quantum Roulette. “Live from London” adds a different proposition by making an established casino venue itself part of the content.
The company and Hippodrome have also highlighted player protection alongside the entertainment value of the project, an important consideration as venue-based live casino content reaches multiple regulated markets. How far it grows beyond this will certainly be something worth keeping an eye on.
